When I stumbled upon this review-a-thon I knew it was exactly what I needed. When I started this blog...I planned to review at least 50% of what I read. I have failed-big time. I am afraid to actually crunch the numbers...but I think I have reviewed less than 25%. *Shakes head*
I have a confession to make.
I like reading books so much more than reviewing them.
Okay, now that I have that out there, I feel so much better. In fact I suspect that I am not alone here.
Not that I don't enjoy reviewing...obviously...but come on...starting that next book winking from the edge of the bookshelf is always going to look more appealing than sitting in front of the keyboard to write a review...
And the result of liking to read more than writing up reviews? A super huge backlog of books waiting to be reviewed. So many that I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and guilty...yes some of them (Okay...you caught me! Many of them) are review books.
So without further ado, a list of all the books that I have read and not reviewed in 2012. (For a list of everything I've read see the "My Reads" tab at the top of my blog) I'm putting them all out here to keep myself honest. (And maybe to add a bit of self flagellation as incentive. Now I feel guilty and embarrassed! LOL) My goal is to write up reviews for all of the Review books and a good chunk (11 maybe...hopefully) of the Non-review books this month. That would give me a total of 20 reviews to write up. I may group up some similar types...ie paranormal cozies... and do a set of mini reviews.
If anyone has any request for reviews of some of the non-review books let me know!

11/15/12 Update:
Well 2 weeks in and I've only written 2 reviews:/ I really need to pick up the pace because at the minimum I want to write up 8 more: all of the review books and at least one of the ARCs!
11/20/12 Update:
Only 3 reviews written so far this month! Hopefully the long Thanksgiving weekend coming up will be my ticket to catch up. After all 20 of my guests have gone and the house is quite again , I plan to get cracking!
11/30/12 Update:
Fail! only 4 reviews written all month...my worst month of the year! Guess that's what I get for joining a review-a-thon in the middle of a reviewing slump! LOL

I think you should do quick and dirty reviews like http://inkandpage.me/ or break um up like Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings and if you want to change your habit..then no review, no new read..LOL I had no idea you had read so many books. Although you did have a lovely wedding to plan! Good for you for setting goals and enjoy the read-a-thon
ReplyDeleteGood luck with getting your reviews written. I have about five I need to review and I hope to have them done by the end of the weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for trying to catch up. Sometimes it's just nice to read.
Do quick reviews. I review all my books. But if you go to my site and see, I'm not as formal about my reviews. I just write them as I feel them. I am one review behind, but only because I've had to work at my 2nd job the last two nights, then I got a splint on my left hand today, which makes it hard to type. So I let myself take it off to type one. And I'll do the other tomorrow, or Saturday.
ReplyDeleteAh, I've a confession to make: I like reading much better than reviewing too. I always try to write them as soon as I can so there aren't more than 2 unwritten reviews on my list but still. If I don't sit down and write them right after reading it, it gets a LOT harder in a few days/weeks to remember all those tiny details I liked or didn't liked. Boo!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the reviewathon! :)
I am very much the same as you, and then you get busy and it's easier to find the odd ten-fifteen minutes to read (mostly while out and about) then it is to find the 30mins-1hour to write a review! haha.
ReplyDeleteAnd my list looks about as crazy as yours! Fortunately, like you, the majority of unwritten reviews I have are non-review books (-phew-)
Let's hope we both get many reviews written!
Good luck Melissa and yay for joining us :D

I am exactly like Heidi, I review almost everything I read and feel guilty when I don't. There are maybe 20 books or so I haven't reviewed this year though. Mostly library books and middle grade. I haven't done so well reviewing the middle grade books I read aloud. But I keep meaning to write up a post with several mini reviews of them.
ReplyDeleteI try to review right after I finish but if its night then I usually do it the next day. Its not really too hard for me to do so but sometimes I feel overwhelmed with stuff to do and so that's why I sometimes don't review books. I just have too much to do. I usually always review books I have much feeling about but if its a book I own or borrowed and I felt blah about it I don't bother.
I am right there with you on this - I am completely unmoved to write reviews right now. I need to just hunker down and do it. My problem is that I keep getting distracted by trolling all the blogs and doing my blog maintenance. I'm a total mess right now but if I get a grip on my mess I'll check this challenge out!! It's a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteMore power to ya sista!!! I WISH I wrote my reviews right after I read the books... OH, and I did have the same goal of reviewing everything I read. Oh well...
Don't worry, I'm behind too but we can deffo catch up! Good luck Melissa!
