Salted Caramel Mocha
In the book Recalled, Dex, the main character discovers coffee creamer. To be more specific, the salted caramel mocha kind. If memory serves he says it’s like heaven.
I happen to like a salted caramel mocha, too. In fact I will drink any coffee with caramel in it. LOL.
It is also well known that I am a Starbuck’s fanatic. I love it. Think of Scooby Doo who will do anything for a Scooby Snack. Yeah that’s me accept I want a latte.
So in honor of Dex and my coffee habit I have brought a long a recipe for a Salted Caramel Mocha that the website claims is just as good as Starbuck’s.
Guess we will have to make it and see for ourselves.
I found this recipe (and the image of the coffee below) at Replica Recipes. Check out their site for lots of other recipes:

Now, let’s get to the good part! The coffee!
Ingredients
· 1 shot of espresso or 3/4 cup coffee
· 1 1/2 – 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (see recipe)
· 1-2 tablespoons cocoa powder (the hot chocolate kind, not the unsweetened baking kind)
· Pinch of sea salt (Starbucks uses a blend of smoked sea salt and turbinado sugar for sprinkling)
· 1/2 cup milk
· Whipped cream (optional)
· Extra caramel sauce and sea salt to drizzle/sprinkle on top
Salted Caramel Syrup
· 1/2 cup sugar
· 3 tablespoons salted butter, cubed
· 1/4 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
Directions
With an espresso maker:
1. Prepare espresso.
2. Place caramel sauce, cocoa powder and sea salt in a mug and pour espresso over them.
3. Froth milk and slowly pour into mug, stirring to combine everything.
4. Taste and add more caramel, cocoa and/or salt to taste.
5. Top with whipped cream, drizzle caramel sauce, and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
Without an espresso maker:
1. Prepare coffee.
2. Place caramel sauce, cocoa powder and sea salt in a mug.
3. Pour coffee into mug, stirring to combine everything.
4. Heat milk in microwave or on the stove and add to mug, stirring everything to combine.
5. Taste and add more caramel, cocoa and/or salt to taste.
6. Top with whipped cream, caramel sauce and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
Directions for Salted Caramel Syrup
1. In a medium saucepan, cook the sugar over medium heat, stirring occasionally with a spatula (if it becomes lumpy, reduce heat and refrain from stirring).
2. When it turns a deep amber color, add the butter and stir until it is melted.
3. Add the heavy cream and whisk until the caramel is smooth (be careful, it will bubble up when you add the cream).
4. Remove from heat and let cool.
Make yourself a mug and enjoy it with Recalled! (you know I couldn’t resist the little plug)

Love or Death? A simple question really. The choice seems obvious. But. What if you never knew love, what if your life was spent just trying to survive? What if you knew your fate before you were fully grown?
And then you died.
And you were given another chance. A better chance.
This new life depended upon one thing: your job. And so you agreed. You thought it would be simple. You thought it would be cut and dry.
It never is.

I bought this book yesterday even though my kindle broke so I'm not sure when I'll be able to read it. But it sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI ADORE the cover! The purple is very eye catching.
Salted caramel mocha is MY drink! I don't usually drink anything with dairy in it since I'm mostly vegan, but I do sometimes cheat and get a salted caramel mocha. I make them at home with regular coffee but with regular creamer and sea salt. Not the same, but as close as I can get without an espresso maker.
You had me at "Salted Caramel Mocha". I'm way too lazy to make it so it's overpriced Starbucks for me but that's my favorite drink there.
DeleteCongrats on your book.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover..Thanks for the chance to win!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a woman after my own heart, Cambria!! Salted caramel ANYTHING is my favorite! Mocha drinks, milkshakes, chocolate bars with caramel and sea salt....all of the above for me ;) YUM.
